What’s the Expo about?
For the sixth year, the Atlanta Sci-Fi and Fantasy Expo will celebrate pop-culture creators with a family-friendly event at North DeKalb Mall! Artists, writers, actors, game designers, animators, modelers, cosplayers and fans will gather to share their craft, instruct and inspire others to explore their own fannish interests. The two-day event features panels, workshops, gaming tournaments, live entertainment and a Dealer’s Hall. This event is free and open to the public!
Is this event really free? How can it be free?
Yes! With the exception of our cosplay ball and some hands-on learning workshops, the event is completely free. The Expo is funded through the support of our sponsors, table sales in our Vendor Hall and Artist’s Alley, community donations, tickets to the cosplay ball, and the support of our venue-partner Northlake Mall.
Why don’t you charge?
The showrunners are life-long fans of all things geeky and wanted to provide an opportunity for the community to experience a full-scale fan event without some of the usual expenses. Currently, we are able to sustain the event without charging a general admission fee.
Is this the same event that used to be held at North DeKalb Mall?
Yes. During the pandemic, North DeKalb was closed and sold to a developer. We have partnered with Northlake Mall, just two exits up on I-285, as our new mall venue partner.
Where have you been?!
The COVID-19 pandemic began just prior to the 2020 show. As a precaution, we decided to cancel the event and the following Monday formal shutdowns were announced worldwide. It was a difficult decision, but one we are forever grateful to have made. During the lockdown, North DeKalb Mall was shuttered for good, which left both the Expo and our main sponsor, Challenges Games & Comics, without a home. Luckily, Challenges was able to obtain a new lease at nearby Northlake Mall and also negotiated a new home for the Expo.
