Welcome, allow me to introduce myself I am Ernest McClendon aka Onyx Comics. I am an Atlanta based independent artist by way of Akron Ohio. I am currently working on my first comic book which I plan to turn into a graphic novel. I have self-published several “Pen Fun” ashcans of my works ranging from superheroes, fairies and mythical creatures and my signature BBWs (Big Beautiful Women). I am a member of several Metro Atlanta artist groups and participate in roundtable discussions. I have participated as a vendor in comic conventions in Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia since 2015. I currently have gallery space at the Time Machine Vintage Boutique in the Met Atlanta in the West End.
My inspiration began with the movie “The Red Coats” in kindergarten. I was in awe of the costumes and the soldiers and I knew then I wanted to draw people. I drew every day, every chance I got. There were times my focus on drawing got me into trouble; missing dinner or not paying attention in class. My dedicated focus continued through middle school and high school, I attended Central Hower a vocational high school in Akron, Ohio where I really learned to begin to hone my craft. One thing I do and encourage anyone interested about being an artist is practice, practice and more practice. It is important to find the time and space to draw every day whether you feel like it or not.
Currently I create live video feeds on Face Book every day. I use this platform to connect with other artist as well as showcase my talent and techniques. Since beginning the live video feeds, my overall social media presence has grown substantially. I have connected with artist from all over; as a result I am collaborating with an artist in Greece! The best part of doing the daily live video feeds on Face Book is I get messages from other artist asking for assistance in helping to fine tune their skills and asking to critique their artwork. My response is always the same, “I am no critic I am an independent artist and the only an artist can say when a piece is complete”
One of my ultimate goals is to create space where independent artist have a nurturing non critic environment to create and publish.
